Cancer Research

One strategic goal of LMICS is the development of a regional research strategy aimed at:

  • improving participation of regional patients in clinical trials (research programs that test new drugs, drug combinations and delivery methods with the aim of finding safer, more effective treatments) that provide access to new treatments and therapies,
  • improving the output of the region in social and public health research into cancer, and
  • facilitating the development of a regional research agenda through enhanced cooperation and collaboration.

The Bendigo Health Oncology Unit conduct various cancer clinical trials, supported by a Clinical Trial Coordinator. For further information and a list of trials open to accrual please contact the research team on 03 5454 8821.

Cancer Trials Australia (CTA) provides a service to support the conduct of cancer clinical trials within Bendigo Health. It is anticipated that CTA's involvement will substantially increase the availability of cancer trials to patients within the Loddon Mallee region.

The Victorian Cancer Agency (VCA) is a new Victorian Government funded organisation, established to link cancer research with patient care. It aims to promote, enhance and facilitate cancer research, and its translation to clinical practice to enable the delivery of evidence-based cancer services in Victoria. The VCA is currently engaging with LMICS to explore ways in which cancer research in the region can be enhanced.

The Victorian Cancer Trials Link (VCTL) is a searchable database of all cancer clinical trials being conducted in Victoria.  It can be used by both consumers and clinicians.
