There are two types of scholarships on offer by the Loddon Mallee Integrated Cancer Service (LMICS) Governance Group.
Scholarship A (Courses) This scholarship is intended to contribute towards the expenses associated with any course fees and text book costs, up to, but not exceeding the amount of $2500. This scholarship only applies to the following courses: Prostate Care Nursing and Lung Cancer Nursing Education. Only one scholarship per course will be awarded within each financial year. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact LMICS prior to submitting an application to express their interest. For course and enrolment details and dates please refer to the Cancer Council Victoria website. Successful applicants are required to write a report for the LMICS Governance Group within ONE month of the completion of the course. A report template is provided to assist with the completion of this requirement. Failure to complete this requirement will result in future applications for financial support not being considered. Successful applicants are also required to submit evidence of the successful completion of the course. Scholarship B (Conferences)
This scholarship in intended to cover the associated costs of attending or presenting at one of the following four conferences: National Breast Care Nurses Conference, The Cancer Care Coordination Conference, Clinical Oncological Society of Australia Annual Scientific Meeting (COSA ASM) and the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CNSA) Winter Congress. These costs will include a contribution towards registration, accommodation and travel, up to (but not exceeding) the amount of $1000. Applications must be received no later than two weeks prior to early bird registration closure. Applications received after this time will not be accepted. These dates can be located by visiting the conference websites. It will be up to the discretion of the trustees (????) to decide how many of these scholarships will be awarded in each financial year.
All applicants will be notified of the result of their application by mail. It is acceptable and encouraged for successful applicants to seek co-contributions towards costs from other organisations and health services. Successful applicants are required to write a report for the trustees within ONE month of attendance at the conference. A report template is provided to assist with the completion of this requirement. Failure to complete this requirement will result in future applications for financial support not being considered. Successful applicants are also required to submit evidence of attendance at the conference.
Eligibility Criteria
- Working within the Loddon Mallee Region
- Working within Cancer Care
- Fulfilment of the above information as stated for scholarships A and B
- Evidence of enrolment/registration
- Applicants must demonstrate their ability and commitment to improving the delivery of cancer care in LMR
- Preference will be given to those who have actively been seeking assistance from other organisations (eg their health service - evidence required) and those who are presenting (oral or poster) at conferences.
Exclusion Criteria
- Received financial assistance from LMICS for the same scholarship they are applying for within the last financial year
- Work outside Loddon Mallee Region
- Applications for retrospective funding will not be considered
- Applications for multiple courses/conferences in the same financial year will not be considered
- Applications for costs outside of those stated above will not be considered.
PaymentIt is required that each successful applicant liaise with the Administration/Project Officer secretary (??) in organising all travel, accommodation, course or registration fees. Where costs have already been paid a cheque will be organised to reimburse applicants or the employing department/hospital (the later of which is the preferred option ??), otherwise LMICS will make arrangements to pay costs on behalf of successful applicants. A Scholarship Application Form can be downloaded from the LMICS website or further enquiries can be made by contacting the LMICS office (Ph. 03 5454 8380). The following information is required in your application:
- All relevant qualifications (including institution and date of attainment)
- A full description of your current role within your organisation
- Your objectives of attending course/conference
- How you see your attendance at the course/conference improving the delivery of cancer care within your organisation across LMR? (Please detail)
- A plan for integrating the skills/information and knowledge gained from attendance to develop other staff in your workplace.
- A detailed proposed budget
- A statement outlining sponsorship from your organisation
- A statement outlining sponsorship from other organisations and health services
You are also required to send a copy of a Letter of Endorsement from your present organisation/head of department/other senior professional confirming that they support your application.
IMPORTANT: A failure to provide all of the required information/documentation for the above scholarship requirements will be detrimental to your application and will result in it not being considered.
