Requests for Cancer Data and Related Services

LMICS provides cancer data and related services to our member organisations, free of charge. This data sharing arrangement helps LMICS to fulfil its role to encourage collaboration within Loddon Mallee health services and support evidence-based development across the region.

LMICS routinely receives the following data from the Victorian Cancer Registry (VCR) and the Centre for Victorian Data Linkage (CVDL) at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS):

  • A Victorian Admitted Episodes Dataset (VAED) extract for all people with one or more cancers admitted to our member health services, inclusive of a hospital-specific unit record (UR) number (biannual supply of data)
  • A de-identified VAED extract for all people with one or more cancers admitted to any health service in Victoria, exclusive of UR number but inclusive of a state-wide identification number (annual supply of data)
  • A VCR extract of all cancer notifications submitted to the registry by any of our member health services (biannual supply of data).

The VAED extracts include information on parenteral (e.g. intravenous) chemotherapy and surgical services provided to cancer patients. LMICS is also in the process of arranging access to information from other administrative datasets.

Under our Conditions of Release and the LMICS Memorandum of Understanding, the LMICS Data Team has permission to provide data to member health services for:

  • Quality improvement initiatives related to cancer care
  • Ethically-approved research related to cancer care
  • Ad-hoc requests for data to support cancer services, including health service planning and funding applications
  • Annual routine health service reports.

In addition to providing this information, the LMICS Data Team is available to:

  • Assist with the design of cancer data collection tools, for purposes such as clinical auditing and surveying clinicians or consumers
  • Undertake cancer data collection, including clinical auditing and survey administration
  • Provide a statistical consultancy service to those involved in the delivery of cancer care across the Loddon Mallee region.

Prior to requesting data support, however, we would encourage you to review the latest LMICS Annual Report or the interactive Victorian Cancer Statistics website in case the relevant data are already available online.
